Three South African women who are breaking barriers in motorsport came together to celebrate Women's Day on 9 August 2026. Content creator and racing enthusiast Girlie Lukhele shared the video, introducing what she called her "girl gang" — a group of women dominating the automotive and racing scenes. One of them included Simphiwe Mohlahlo, whom Briefly News had previously featured as a Woman of Wonder for her trailblazing work as a Black female racing driver.
Filmed at what appears to be a racetrack facility, the clip features the women in full racing suits, posing confidently next to branded race cars, including VW-sponsored vehicles and a striking purple single seater. The energy is upbeat and unapologetically fierce.
The women behind the wheel
Lukhele highlighted the three women besides her, beginning with Nicole Torres, known in motorsport circles as Racing Barbie, is the co-founder of the Forza Women's Single Seaters series. She races a pink single seater car in the Forza Women's Series and has made it her mission to open doors for women across all positions in the sport.
