SOUTH AFRICA — An EFF Member of Parliament was arrested on the night of 9 October 2026 after she allegedly assaulted a law enforcement officer, according to preliminary information reported by eNCA journalist Pule Letshwiti-Jones on X.

According to Letshwiti-Jones, the incident began when the MP requested that an affidavit already bearing a signature be commissioned. Officials advised her that protocol requires such documents to be signed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths, a procedure she reportedly refused to accept.

Dispute escalated into alleged assault

The MP's dissatisfaction with that explanation reportedly escalated into a confrontation, culminating in an alleged physical assault on a police officer. The name of the MP had not been confirmed in the posts at the time of publication, with Letshwiti-Jones describing the reports as preliminary.
