WESTERN CAPE - Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament (MP) Ian Cameron has publicly denied any involvement in a scheme to remove or arrest senior South African Police Service officials.
Cameron made the denial in response to allegations made against him during testimony before the Madlanga Commission. Speaking in a video statement broadcast on eNCA on Thursday, 6 August 2026, Cameron addressed claims made by State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy.
Ramsamy alleged that Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) investigator Dylan Perumal approached Cameron and ActionSA MP Dereleen James to act as complainants in efforts to remove suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola and Crime Intelligence Head Dumisani Khumalo.
Cameron responds to Ramsamy’s allegations
The DA MP, who chairs the Portfolio Committee on Police, rejected the characterisation of his conduct as improper.
"Insinuations made about me are of course false, unsubstantiated and unsupported by any evidence that I knowingly participated in or supported a plan to remove or arrest senior SAP officials," he said.

Cameron said he cooperated openly with IDAC and later with the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) regarding matters that had already emerged in a public portfolio committee meeting. He also noted that Advocate Ramsamy herself acknowledged uncertainty about her own interpretation of events during testimony.

Madlanga questions Advocate Johnson over Masemola
Briefly News also reported that Madlanga Commission of Inquiry chair questioned Andrea Johnson about General Masemola.
Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga argued that placing the Police Commissioner in the same trial as individuals charged with fraud and corruption was deliberate.
He put it to Johnson that the decision was intended to damage General Masemola's public image.
