Details of Alex Van Heerden’s Kidnapping Emerge, Captors Gave the Attorney R200 Before Releasing Her

GAUTENG - New details have surfaced about the kidnapping and safe return of Alex Soleil van Heerden, raising fresh questions about the motive of the abduction.

Van Heerden, a Johannesburg attorney, was snatched from outside her own home on the evening of 5 August 2026. The 26-year-old was grabbed by armed men at her Northcliff property as she exited an Uber.

She was eventually dropped off at the Vosloorus police station late on a Thursday night, more than 24 hours after the abduction.

Kidnappers let van Heerden go with R200

Bhaai Cassim, a member of the Fairland community policing forum and the station's victim support unit, shared more details with Times Live about the kidnapping and her safe return.

He stated that it appeared as if the captors had been acting on orders from a third party and had provided her with food. Before letting her go, they even gave her R200. Van Heerden flagged down a passing motorist, who took her to the Vosloorus Police Station.

"Her kidnappers had taken good care of her. They had acted on instructions. They gave her food and were told not to hurt her. We don't yet know why they decided to release her, but they had given her R200 and let her go," Cassim said.

Van Heerden was released not long after police arrested one person in connection with the kidnapping. A joint police and private security operation used cellphone tracking to trace the kidnappers to the Vaal area, where the vehicle used in her abduction was found.

The motive behind the kidnapping has not yet been confirmed, and investigations into those responsible are continuing.

Briefly News reported that private investigator Mike Bolhuis shared new details about the kidnapping and rescue of van Heerden.

Bolhuis said Van Heerden is unharmed and resting after her terrifying ordeal, praising her Uber driver for alerting police quickly.

The driver immediately alerted police after witnessing the abduction, leading to a rapid response from authorities and private security.
