PRETORIA — Disbarred attorney Malesela Teffo was arrested on 15 September 2026 after police acted on a warrant issued against him for contempt of court.

A short video shared on X by journalist Yusuf Abramjee shows two officers escorting Teffo to a police van. According to Abramjee, Teffo was at the offices of the Legal Practice Council when police were called and he was taken into custody on the spot. He had reportedly gone there to obtain a certificate of good standing.

Teffo's appearance at Matlala trial

The warrant stems from a court order barring Teffo from practising law, which he allegedly violated when he appeared at the trial of attempted murder suspect Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. His address in court drew sharp criticism from Matlala's own attorney as well as counsel for a co-accused. The unauthorised appearance resulted in the police actively looking for him.
