GAUTENG — A second victim from the group of eight women found dead across Ekurhuleni has been officially identified, with the South African Police Service naming her as Itumeleng Kekana.
Kekana's body was initially discovered on 3 August 2026 on Great North Road in Pomona, Kempton Park. She had been reported missing on 17 July 2026 and was found fully naked at the scene.

Second identification in the Ekurhuleni murder cases
The announcement follows a statement made by SAPS on Tuesday, 16 September 2026, in which police confirmed that two of the eight bodies had received initial identifications. Kekana is the second named victim to emerge from that disclosure.
The first identified victim was Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo, 38, whose family formally identified her on 14 September 2026 at the Germiston mortuary. Her body had been found on 12 September in Rhodesfield.
Investigations continue, as police work toward catching the person or persons responsible for the murders. Police have also called upon residents to come forward if they knew any women missing, as officers attempt to identify the other six victims.
Criminologist weighs in on possibility of a serial killer
Briefly News reported that criminologist Professor Nirmala Gopal weighed in on the murders in Kempton Park.
Professor Gopal said that the pattern of killings involving the women was consistent with the work of a single perpetrator.
The police have urged caution against drawing premature conclusions, as the community has been gripped by fear.
