Orlando Pirates Fans Plan on Protesting Due to Poor Results, Josef Zinnbauer Comments

Despite the backlash he has received from some of the club's fans, who are preparing a protest on 5 June, Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer says there are some spectators who are enthusiastic about how things have been going for the team.

Fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the German-born coach on social media for some time, urging the club's management to fire him.

Some Pirates have called for Zinnbauer's dismissal after the Buccaneers were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals after losing 5-1 on aggregate against Raja Casablanca, according to a report by The Citizen.

According to Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs fans recently organised a march to Naturena to express their unhappiness with the club and hand over a statement of grievances and Pirates fans are now following in their rivals' footsteps. Zinnbauer said:

“You have some supporters who are upset after games we lost, which is totally normal. I can understand. But you have on the other side supporters who give you positives. Don’t forget we won a title this season."

In other soccer news, Briefly News reported that Chiefs and Pirates captains Parker and Jele said that not having fans at stadiums is a disadvantage.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates haven't exactly had a good run this season and their respective captains are blaming it on not having fans at the stadium. According to Happy Jele and Bernard Parker, the Soweto giants are missing their "12th man" in order to help them win games.

Many fans thought that Pirates and Chiefs would be challenging Mamelodi Sundowns for the league but this is not what happened. Dark horses AmaZulu FC picked up a good run and have been keeping Sundowns on their toes.

Speaking at the Carling Black Label Cup launch, Happy Jele said that Covid-19 restrictions have cost Pirates the chance of competing at a higher level.
