Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has refused to comment on the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season award. The Masandawana boss failed to bag the accolade as he lost to AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy.
The awards ceremony was held by the Premier Soccer League on Sunday and many are still questioning why Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena were snubbed.
Sundowns were crowned league champions and Mngqithi led his troops to one defeat out of 30 matches and didn’t suffer a single defeat away from home.

However, the former school teacher said he cannot comment on the issue, preferring to say he is not the right person to talk about it.
Mgqithi addressed the media:
“To be honest, I don’t think I am the right person to talk about that. Maybe the adjudicators will share a better light, because it does not start with the coach of the season. For me, when we got to the coach of the season, we are going to the end product.
“The question is when in the season did we not do well, not to qualify for those coach of the month awards? Because we dominated from the beginning of the season to the end, but we only got the coach of the month award at the end, in May.
“So, maybe there was something that we did not do right, which we should hear from the adjudicators what exactly would influence us in proving our standing next season because we want to improve. We also believe we have a chance to win it if we can know exactly what is expected of us.
“To win the league with 13 points away from number two, to lose one match and not lose any away from home and only concede 14 goals and score more than 44. Maybe there is something that we did not do, so it’s important for us to know, so that we know where we can improve. I would rather not win the coach of the season award, if the award is not going to come with the trophy. For me, the bigger fish was the trophy."
