Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea treated fans to an entertaining game on Sunday afternoon.

The two sides met for a Premier League clash at the Molineux stadium, looking to bounce back from their respective defeats on the opening day of the new season.

The visitors were quickly off the mark, with Nicolas Jackson heading in from close range after 89 seconds. Matheus Cunha responded on the other end for Wolves after initially having a goal disallowed.

Cole Palmer picked up from where he left off last season, scoring a beauty of a goal by chipping Jose Sa.

The goal was a product of quick thinking from Robert Sanchez to hoof a restart up-field towards Jackson, who flicked it to Palmer's path.

Why Cole Palmer's goal shouldn't have been given

However, replays show that the ball was moving before Sanchez took the free kick, which is contrary to football rules regarding dead balls.

Law 13 of Football Laws says that the ball must be stationary, and the kicker must not touch the ball again until it has touched another player.

However, and unluckily for Wolves, this is not one of the areas under VAR's purview, as restarts aren't included in its protocol. The match officials failed to spot it in real time, and thus, the goal was awarded.

Wolves equalised again through Jorgen Strand Larsen just before half-time. After the break, Madueke and Palmer took over the show. Joao Felix then came off the bench to score in his second debut for the club.

What did Madueke say about Wolverhampton?

Earlier, Briefly News had reported that Madueke had made an offensive remark about Wolverhampton ahead of the Sunday game.

Madueke made the comment on Instagram before quickly pulling it down and clarifying he had used the wrong account.
