Mamelodi Sundowns Face Transfer Battle As 2 European Clubs Target Bafana Bafana Star

  • Global transfer expert Ekrem Kanour revealed that Portuguese clubs Braga and Famalicão are closely monitoring Bafana Bafana defender Khulumani Ndamane
  • The 22-year-old central defender joined Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2026 after a standout season with TS Galaxy in the Premiership
  • A potential January transfer move to Portugal is reportedly on the radar for the former Kaizer Chiefs Academy graduate

Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana defender Khulumani Ndamane has drawn interest from two Portuguese top-flight clubs, with Braga and Famalicão both reported to be tracking the 22-year-old central defender ahead of the January transfer window.

Global transfer expert Ekrem Kanour disclosed the development, stating: "Braga & Famalicão scouts closely monitoring Khulumani Ndamane. Tracking the player's progress under watch. January potential move on the radar."

**Ndamane's Rise From Chiefs Academy to Sundowns**

Born in Sahlumbe, KwaZulu-Natal, Ndamane came through the Kaizer Chiefs youth structures after catching attention in regional junior football. He progressed through the Under-19 side and into the DStv Diski Challenge reserve team, but a pathway into the Chiefs senior squad proved elusive, pushing him to seek first-team opportunities elsewhere.

In June 2024, he signed with TS Galaxy, and the move transformed his career. Across the 2024/25 season, he made 27 league appearances and was integral to Galaxy's fifth-place Premiership finish. His composure under pressure, game intelligence and ability to distribute from the back made him one of the competition's more impressive defenders that campaign.

His club form also opened the international door. Ndamane made his Bafana Bafana debut against Tanzania in June 2025, subsequently featuring in FIFA World Cup qualifiers under coach Hugo Broos and earning selection for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Those performances persuaded Mamelodi Sundowns to act in January 2026, when the Pretoria giants secured his signature during the mid-season transfer window. At Chloorkop, Ndamane has continued to impress at the continent's highest level, contributing to Sundowns' CAF Champions League title triumph and gaining exposure through the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

The reported Portuguese interest reflects the scale of his progress since leaving the Kaizer Chiefs Academy. According to Kanour, both Braga and Famalicão are monitoring him closely, with a potential switch in January already under consideration by the two clubs.
