Springboks captain Siya Kolisi has reacted to South Africa's big win over the All Blacks of New Zealand at Wellington Stadium on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Kolisi didn't captain the Springboks in the first round of the tie, where they lost 24-17 at Eden Park, but led the side to retain their Freedom Cup title for the first time ever this weekend.

The Springboks inflicted a record-breaking defeat on the All Blacks in their Rugby Championship round four clash, scoring six tries to win 43-10.

“What stood out for me was the freedom they gave us on the field,” Kolisi explained.

He noted that the backs, in particular, were encouraged to take risks: “The coaches told them to back themselves, to go for it and not worry about mistakes. Even when a pass went astray or an overlap was missed, no one panicked; we kept believing in our plan.”

Kolisi added that head coach Rassie Erasmus played a crucial role by trusting players who hadn’t had much game time: “Rassie showed belief in us, and in turn reminded us to keep believing in one another. In a game of this magnitude, that kind of backing was vital.”
