Ballynahinch RFC cancelled all youth fixtures scheduled for the weekend as a mark of respect for the teenager, reflecting the depth of grief felt within the club.

The South African rugby community recently lost former player Russell Nelson, who died a few days before celebrating his birthday, and also a young player who died during training.

The outpouring of support extended well beyond Ballynahinch itself, with clubs from across the region coming forward to express their condolences. Portadown Rugby Club issued a formal statement describing the club as heartbroken on behalf of Charlie's loved ones.

Charlie's funeral service took place on Monday at Ballynahinch Congregational Church, where family, friends, and members of the rugby community gathered to pay their respects.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Ballynahinch RFC confirmed that their club welfare officer, Karen McDowell, is available to any young players who are struggling to cope with the loss.

Rugby legend dies after cardiac arrest
