Caelan Doris: Springboks’ November Opponents Dealt Huge Blow As Rugby Star Is Ruled Out Until 2027
Ireland's November Test campaign has been dealt a significant blow after captain Caelan Doris was ruled out until at least January 2027 following complications with his recovery from foot and knee surgery.

The 27-year-old Leinster number eight sustained the initial foot injury during the URC final against the Bulls in June, a match in which Leinster claimed victory. Subsequent surgery addressed both the foot and knee, but an infection in his knee has since slowed his rehabilitation, according to The Irish Times. The setback ruled him out of Ireland's summer tour, and hopes of a return for the autumn campaign have now been extinguished.
**Cullen Raises Doubts Over Doris Return**
Leinster head coach Leo Cullen was candid about the uncertainty surrounding his captain's availability when asked about his fitness. "I can't answer that question [if Doris will be fit to play for Ireland]. I genuinely don't know," Cullen said.

Despite the bleak outlook, Doris is reported to be making progress in his recovery, with January 2027 now set as his target return date.
His absence leaves Ireland coach Andy Farrell needing to plan without his first-choice skipper for three high-profile home fixtures in November: Argentina on 6 November, Fiji on 14 November, and South Africa on 21 November, followed by the Nations Championship Finals Weekend from 27 to 29 November.
**Gibson-Park Returns to Boost Ireland Camp**
Amid the concern over Doris, Farrell has received some welcome news on the injury front. Scrum-half Jamison Gibson-Park has returned to training with Leinster after missing the province's first two URC matches with a groin problem, which also kept him out of the touring fixtures against the Lions and Sharks in South Africa. RTÉ Sport confirmed the 34-year-old's return to the training field, a development that will encourage Ireland's management as they build towards the November Tests.
However, the squad picture is not entirely positive. Munster out-half Jack Crowley is also in a race against time to be available, after a recent health issue placed his participation in doubt ahead of the autumn series.
