No police case has been filed following a weekend car accident involving former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena, with Vanderbijlpark Police confirming the incident does not appear in their records.

Mokoena, South Africa's most capped men's international footballer with 107 appearances, spoke to Sedibeng Ster Sport about the crash, stating he sustained minor injuries after his vehicle lost control on a well-known dangerous bend at Trevaga Court in Hertz Boulevard. He said the accident occurred on Sunday while he was travelling home from a family gathering, a short distance from his residence.

Mokoena returns from SAFA duties

The former skipper had arrived home on Saturday after spending the week in Johannesburg working with South African Football Association (SAFA) development structures. The Sunday outing was a family occasion before returning to his regular routine.

Claims that Mokoena was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident have been dismissed as unfounded.

Police confirm no report filed

Vanderbijlpark Police spokesperson Sergeant Sabelo Sigcu, responding to queries from Sedibeng Ster Sport, confirmed the incident had not been brought to the station's attention.

"It's not in our system. That means it was not reported at the police station," Sigcu said. He added that the only vehicle accident recorded by police over the weekend took place in Bophelong.

Mokoena made his debut for the South African men's national team against Botswana in 1999 and went on to accumulate 107 caps, a record that remains unmatched in Bafana Bafana history.
