Pregnant media personality Ayanda Thabethe appears to have quietly removed her husband Peter Matsimbe's surname from her social media profiles, and fans have taken notice. On top of that, reports suggest she has been staying with her younger sister, Lungile Thabethe, rather than at the couple's multimillion-rand Bryanston mansion.

X user @sanelenkosiii made the claims on Thursday, 8 October 2026, noting that Ayanda dropped the double-barrelled "Thabethe Matsimbe" from her handles and allegedly relocated during her pregnancy. A check of the MBA graduate's platforms shows she currently goes simply by "Ayanda Thabethe (MBA)" on Instagram, where she has 2.2 million followers, with no mention of her husband's surname.

Maternity shoot that had Mzansi talking

Just weeks before the rumours surfaced, Ayanda shared a striking maternity shoot on Instagram on Monday, 21 September 2026. The photos showed her confidently cradling her rounded belly while posing on a sofa. A gender reveal moment was also captured, with Ayanda and a man presumed to be her husband cutting into a white cake together to expose a pink centre, suggesting the couple are expecting a baby girl.

Already a mother to two boys, Junior, 4, and Enzo, 3, the pink reveal drew excitement. However, in hindsight, some followers began scrutinising the images more closely once the separation rumours broke.

SA reacts to the claims Ayanda Thabethe left marital home

The post sparked a wave of responses across X, with opinions ranging from concern to scepticism:

@Fulunem wrote:

"I'm sure they are moving into their new house in Steyn City soon. What's wrong with staying with family when you are pregnant and vulnerable? Double barrel for branding purposes does not work all the time, especially in these dark times. Let's pray all is well in their marriages."

"She has never used her marital surname on the platforms."

@GetzenUakendisa focused on the maternity shoot:

"Off topic, but the husband's body language was off in that pic, the way the arm is just hanging, yoh ha ah."

@m74218590 offered a lighter take:

"At least she has an MBA… and no one can take it away from her 🤷‍♀️❤️"

@HlengiweNg15 asked:

"Didn't she have her own house before the Peter guy?"

@Mamhayise123 concluded:

"Some things we know how it's going to end. Not surprised."

Neither Ayanda Thabethe nor Peter Matsimbe has publicly addressed the speculation.
