SANParks offers a range of budget-friendly accommodation options. From open campsites to basic huts, there are options without the eye-watering price tags of luxury lodges.

Pricing data from Kruger Park shows that the Malelane campsite in southern Kruger, set beside the Crocodile River, starts at R423 per night, making it the most affordable entry point. Crocodile Bridge and Satara campsites both start from R488 per night, while Pretoriuskop comes in at R508. For those who prefer a roof overhead, Lower Sabie offers a basic hut with a bed and communal facilities from R607, and Pretoriuskop's basic room starts at R640.

South Africans React to the Kruger Prices

For those planning a visit, checking SANParks rates across different seasons can make a real difference to the final bill. Not everyone was convinced the prices were as pocket-friendly as advertised. Commenters shared mixed feelings, along with some handy alternatives.

Joan Rutherford wrote:

"Even staying close by I don't go, way too expensive."

Frans van Hoogstraten noted:

"The Kruger is very expensive for what you get. We tend to go on pensioners' discount time. Makes it more affordable."

Sandi Springorum-Spear had her own suggestion:

"I have a 4-sleeper private cottage to rent, 1.5km from Malelane Gate, at half the price!"

Michelle Lgd offered a camp recommendation:

"Orpen is magnificent. Small, close to nature. Beautifully maintained camp."
