BLOEMFONTEIN - The University of the Free State (UFS) is set to award Elon Musk's 74-year-old mother, Maye Musk, an Honorary Doctorate in Dietetics.

The glamourous model and dietitian will be honoured in a ceremony at the Bloemfontein university on Wednesday, 12 April.

UFS celebrates Maye Musk's contributions to the dietetics field

The director of communication at UFS, Lacea Loader, said Maye’s passion for nutrition and empowerment had given her opportunities to speak at various events worldwide.

According to The Citizen, the university stated that Maye Musk is being honoured for her outstanding contribution to the field.

Maye has run a successful nutrition business for over 45 years. She has locations in eight cities and three different countries.

Maye is the only dietitian to have written the registration exams in three countries and was the first to run a website for her practice.

Maye Musk says she is honoured by UFS's decision to award her an honorary doctorate

Taking to Twitter, Maye stated that she felt to receive the Doctor of Dietetics degree from the same university where she obtained her Hospital Dietetics Diploma and first Master of Science degree.

According to News24, Maye was granted a bursary to pursue her Master of Science degree at UFS before she relocated to her home country, Canada. She was awarded the Outstanding Nutrition Entrepreneur Award in the USA.
