Noem My Skollie star Christian Bennett opens up about his family

Actor Christian Bennett puts a lot of importance on family and family traditions. Christian, who is well-known for his role as Gif (Poison) in Noem My Skollie (Call Me Thief), visits his parents and siblings as often as he can, when he's not spending time with his own family.

Christian (35) grew up in Extension 13 in Belhar, the youngest of 5 siblings, all boys.

His mom, Auntie Rose says despite him being a busy actor, Christian always makes time to visit his family.

To Christian, his parents' home is the definition of his heritage, according to a report by the Daily Voice.

The house has many little things that make it a home loaded with memories. From the framed family pictures, laminated funeral pamphlets to the glass cabinet filled with items of nostalgic value - it all adds that something that makes the family feel like they're at home.

Of the laminated funeral pamphlets, Christian said it reminds them of their roots and culture.

Christian is also happily engaged and has an adorable little girl called Phoenix. She's only one-year-old but is already following in her daddy's shoes. She plays the role of baby Stella in the soap Suidooster.

Another important thing for Christian is the role of food in heritage. For his family, Sunday lunch is very important.

Sunday lunch is big in our home, there must always be chicken, rice, potatoes and a blikkie sweet corn or beans.

The actor will be spending his Heritage Day with family and close friends in front of a braai.

I love traditional foods, but on Heritage day, we braai.

Christian feels passing a family's culture on to the children is very important.
