Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is once again expected to update the nation on the level of preparedness concerning schools reopening amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The briefing is expected to take place on Sunday at 4 pm with the current reopening date set for Grade 7 and 12 students to return to school on Monday.

Briefly.co.za reported that citizens had been up in arms after Motshekga had cancelled the original June 1 reopening just hours before students had been scheduled to return to class.

The minister had later explained that many schools were simply not prepared to welcome students back, with Personal Protective Equipment and teacher training highlighted as the major issues.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has indicated that he will be having another 'family meeting' with South Africa soon.

Speaking during a visit to the Western Cape the nation's leader said that SA would be briefed on Level 3 lockdown developments soon.

This comes after the current State of Disaster, which had been set to expire in just a few days, was extended by a further month.

Ramaphosa say enough information had been gathered to hold another briefing over these developments:

"We will have another family meeting soon my fellow South Africans. That will happen, we need to communicate on a regular basis on where we are as a country. We have accumulated enough information now in the past few days since we started with level 3... There will be a family meeting soon."
