John Oupa Sefoka, known as DJ Sumbody, was reportedly followed in 2021 before he was gunned down in 2022 for knowing too much about a drug cargo that went missing from police custody.

Fans of the musician and businessman previously took to social media to mourn his passing after photos of his car were shared on X, Facebook, and Instagram.

Sunday World reported on Sunday, 10 August, that DJ Sumbody survived his first assassination attempt after performing at the Biblos Cafe in Katlehong in June 2021.

The late musician reportedly beefed up his security and began exiting nightclubs via back doors without telling anyone.

Eyewitnesses shared with the publication that after Sefoka left Biblos Cafe in 2021, a white VW Passat started following Sefoka. The car drove at the same speed and followed them at each turn of the township, and headed to the main roads.

The sources add that when the musician's driver increased his speed, the white Passat also increased its speed and kept a close distance.

The Monate Mpolaye hitmaker's car went through a red traffic light, which indicated that an attack was no longer just paranoia.

At the next red traffic light before the N17 highway, the musician's car passed the intersection, and a large coal truck that had the right of way blocked the road, preventing the white Passat from following through.

"This time, Sefoka held a gun, ready to engage in a gun battle to save his life," adds the publication.
