How to grieve a publicised loss
Speaking to Briefly News writer Tayananiswa Zvikaramba, grief counsellor Paula Quinsee shared how to grieve a publicised loss.
She explained that when grief happens in the public eye, it can feel overwhelming and interfere with the mourner's need for space and privacy.

"Public grief can be amplified through the scrutiny, commentary, and sometimes intrusion of the public and fans. To top this, social media can intensify the sense of exposure as posts can take on a viral life of their own which can impose on a person’s need for privacy during their mourning," Paula Quinsee said.
To cope, Paula Quinsee suggested that one should set boundaries such as limiting time on the internet and designating a spokesperson.
"One way to navigate this is through setting boundaries such as limiting social media use or designating a trusted person to manage online tributes, messaging and communication. This can also aid in knowing when to acknowledge public sympathy and when to retreat," she added.
She added that it also helps to have separate public and private grieving spaces.
"Create both public and private grieving spaces such as a public memorial service and a private ceremony for personal grieving," Paula Quinsee advised.
