Mdoda shared how she attempted to brush off a telemarketer by lying that she doesn’t own a car after they called her to sell a service on behalf of Tracker. The telemarketer left her stunned after telling her that Tracker had been given her details and that she owns a car.

Anele Mdoda took Tracker to task regarding client confidentiality and asked them how much of her information they shared with the telemarketing call centre. The post was captioned:

“Telemarketer: Hi, I’m calling on behalf of Tracker. Me: I don’t have a car. Telemarketer: I know you do because Tracker gave us your information, and you currently have a car with them. Me: 😳 So, I ask you, @TrackerSA, how much information do you give out about us? Considering you have all our information, including the make of cars, address and exact movements? Or you JUST give out our numbers?”

Netizens react after Anele Mdoda calls out company

In the comment section, several netizens pointed out that this wasn’t new and shared examples of companies that give out client information.

@jvrjobs shared:

“Let me scare you even more. Most of the recruiters also do data harvesting. They make more money collecting people's data than getting them jobs. Ask everyone who has to sign a disclaimer to get an interview. If you don't sign, the ‘recruiter’ cannot give you the interview, cause then they are apparently ‘Not allowed’ to give out your information.”

@Dbanj25 claimed:

“That is how our cars are being stolen, because information can be sold to the highest bidder.”

@GobodoV highlighted:

“I'm open to correction. As much as I also despise the unsolicited calls, we agree to this unwittingly when we sign the contracts. There's a clause that says, “you agree that the service provider may share your information with affiliates etc.’”
