Rather than offering a straight answer, Mchunu deflected, raised his voice, and told the interviewer not to be angry — even as he himself grew visibly heated. He insisted that he had personal security since the 2021 unrest and pushed back against the line of questioning, saying leaders need to be held accountable, while simultaneously refusing to provide the accountability being demanded of him.

"Follow the money, it's very simple," he said at one point, in what many viewers read as an ironic deflection rather than a genuine call for transparency.
