Chaos has reportedly descended on Jozi FM 105.8, with armed security allegedly locking down the Soweto-based station as a leadership crisis spiralled out of control this week.
The Soweto Media Resource Centre (SMRC) board moved swiftly on 10 August 2026, suspending CEO Mpho Mhlongo and installing Hans as Acting CEO through Resolution BR/2026/24, reports MDN News. Board Chairperson Rapitse Montsho formalised the transition via an official memo, directing all SMRC staff, volunteers, and presenters to adhere to new operational protocols with immediate effect.
Fan Masango dismissed, CCMA drama surfaces
HR Executive Rachel Nkosi apparently dismissed presenter Fan Masango with immediate effect. Nkosi herself faces scrutiny after allegedly failing to appear before the CCMA in a case involving dismissed newsreader Dieketseng Tabi, adding another layer of accountability questions to an already turbulent situation.

MDN News, which broke the story on X, described the station as experiencing a "systemic breakdown in governance, leadership, and accountability." The board stated that the swift transition was designed to ensure continuity of daily operations, and that the changes bring the station in line with ICASA regulation TOR 5.1.3(c) and a High Court Order dated 21 July 2026.
Listeners react to the Jozi FM shake-Up
The news rattled loyal listeners, many of whom had strong feelings about the changes Mhlongo had made to the station's programming lineup before his suspension.
@metooooz7 was blunt about Mhlongo's outsized presence at the station: "I thought Mhlongo owned the station; every advert on Jozi FM was about our CEO and daddy Mjomana, this and that... all presenters, even the news bulletin, were about him. His favourite presenters, Refiloe and Tshepo Junior, were allocated prime time slots."
@FKekana6601 placed blame squarely on the outgoing CEO's programming decisions: "I just blame him for rearranging the presenters, something that was not necessary. How you take away Mo and Mko from the graveyard show, Sunday line-up (why out Tshepo, why move Fan to 18-00), nonsense, all that. He's shoving the changes down the listeners' throats."

Durban radio star found dead
