A viral post declaring that dinner with Sizwe Dhlomo is worth more than R500,000 took Mzansi by storm - and the broadcaster himself had a lot to say about it.

On 13 September 2026, X user @Maqhawe_Ngubane sparked a conversation by posting, "I'd take dinner with Sizwe Dhlomo over 500k." The declaration was a local spin on the widely debated "Dinner with Jay-Z" trend, which challenges people to choose between a direct cash payout and the chance to sit across from a self-made billionaire and pick their brain.

The post quickly drew attention partly because of who it was about. In the comments, the user further quipped, "But he's Dinangwe," a reference to ongoing jokes about Sizwe's predominantly male following, who are frequently mocked for treating the veteran broadcaster's opinions as near-sacred. Critics of the fanbase often joke that his most devoted supporters would sacrifice almost anything for a moment in his presence - and this post seemed to prove the point.

Hundreds of people responded, but perhaps the most unexpected voice was Sizwe's own. The former Kaya 959 presenter jumped into the thread with a candid message directed at the original poster.

"With all the love, you really should take the money, my bro."

Much like Jay-Z himself, who famously told CBS Morning's Gayle King in 2023, "You got to take the money," Sizwe made it clear that practical financial wisdom trumps any theoretical mentorship session.

Mzansi reacts with jokes and jabs

The comment section became a playground for wit and friendly trolling. Several users pointed out the absurdity of the original choice in typically South African fashion.

_aboihasnoname was clever:

"I'll take the R500k and ask Siz questions on the TL."

Inqama97 trolled:

"First date question: 'Ninja, why didn't you take the money?'"

FormerGrillz made a practical observation:

"Mind you, he responds on the TL for free every day. He's not biased; even a random person who created a faceless account this morning will get a response."
