Somizi Mhlongo has turned MacG's mockery into a success story, revealing that the controversial podcaster's public jabs at him inadvertently opened a major industry door.
Speaking on the L-Tido Podcast, which went live on 9 September 2026, the media veteran reflected on how MacG responded when news broke that Somizi was launching his own podcast. The Podcast and Chill host had suggested the move was a sign that Metro FM was planning to let Somizi go, saying: "He's starting a podcast; it probably means they're firing him next year at Metro."
MacG's dig backfired spectacularly
Rather than damaging Somizi's momentum, the public criticism worked in his favour in a way even he did not anticipate. The Sompire founder told L-Tido that shortly after MacG's comments circulated, an unnamed channel approached him with an offer to purchase his podcast, Life Lessons With Somizi, before it had even launched.

"He gave me a platform for some channel to approach me, and they asked if they could buy it," Somizi said. He went on to sarcastically thank MacG, joking that he is nothing without the controversial presenter.
Somizi used the moment to reflect on how negativity often signals elevation.
"When you're insecure, you won't realise that your hate could be a positive spin for someone else," he said, comparing MacG to the Chucky doll and describing him as "an angry child."

Somizi Mhlongo addresses MacG's Metro FM claims
The Sarafina! star also pushed back on the suggestion that Metro FM might be looking to replace him, declaring himself "unfirable." He further accused MacG of projecting, arguing that MacG's strong reaction to others entering podcasting stems from his own history of being let go from a broadcasting gig.
MacG was dismissed from YFM in 2010 following an on-air incident in which he made offensive homophobic remarks. The Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa issued a ruling and financial penalty against the station as a result.
Despite the back-and-forth, Somizi was careful to separate his feelings from the feud. He acknowledged that MacG runs the biggest podcast in South Africa and said he holds genuine admiration for him.
"Little does he know that I love him so much, but he's an angry child," Somizi said.
