South African poet, activist and Land Party mayoral candidate Ntsiki Mazwai raised eyebrows on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, when she posted a Shona comment about Zimbabwean millionaire Wicknell Chivayo's upcoming funeral, the day before he and his wife Lucy were laid to rest. The post caught followers off guard, with many wondering where exactly Ntsiki had picked up the language.
Chivayo and his wife Lucy died when their helicopter crashed near Marondera on 30 September 2026. The aircraft went down in a rural area at around 5 p.m. while Chivayo was flying to Harare. The couple was buried at Glen Forest in Harare on Thursday, 8 October 2026.

"Iyi nhamo yaWicknell ichationesa mashura!" The Shona phrase, which roughly translates to "Wicknell's funeral is going to reveal shocking things," was accompanied by a GIF that simply read "DRAMA."

The post immediately drew attention, not just because of Ntsiki's characteristically bold commentary on Chivayo's polarising legacy, but because she wrote the whole thing in Shona, a collective name for the native languages of Zimbabwe that sound similar. Followers could not contain their amusement.

"You're witnessing how Zimbabwe is run. The funeral revealed Zimbabwe's social, political and religious elite."
Chivayo was one of Zimbabwe's most talked-about and divisive businessmen in life, and it appears his death and burial have continued to generate conversation well beyond Zimbabwe's borders, with Ntsiki Mazwai proving she had been paying close attention all along.
