Sechaba Shai, son of the late veteran South African actor Patrick Shai, who passed away in January 2022, has reportedly found himself without a home and is pleading for public donations as he struggles with drug addiction.

The legendary actor, who is best known for his role in Ashes to Ashes, triggered an outpouring of grief across social media when his cause of death was confirmed.

Social media user @busisiwe_bubu shared on her X account on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, that Shai's son is homeless.

"Patrick Shai’s son Sechaba Shai homeless and battling drug addiction, pleads for rehab help. Patrick Shai’s son, Sechaba Shai, 42, is reportedly homeless and struggling with drug addiction following a relapse. Sechaba says his father’s death in January 2022 contributed to his relapse, while he reportedly survives by pushing shopping trolleys for customers at Meadowlands Mall in Soweto. Sechaba has pleaded for help to enter rehabilitation, saying he wants to get clean and return to his work educating people about drug and substance abuse through the Kwanele Foundation," she wrote.
