In a clapback that is echoing through Mzansi's soapie scrolls, Duma Mnqobi, the brooding talent behind Fana Mabaso's tragic arc, called out the SABC and 'Generations: The Legacy' for dusting off his old footage like a thrift-store rerun.

The 41-year-old actor-musician, who bid farewell to the nation's favourite villain's son in 2018, dropped a no-holds-barred video on Instagram and TikTok this week, his frustration unmistakable.

In a raw, unscripted takedown that quickly racked up thousands of views, Mnqobi fumed:

Mnqobi's saga with 'Generations: The Legacy', which recently showed a hilarious graveyard scene, kicked off in 2016, a high-octane entry timed with Vusi Kunene's reprisal as the Machiavellian Jack Mabaso – Fana's larger-than-life dad whose criminal web ensnared his son in a fatal plot twist.

As Fana, the 34-year-old at the time (now in his 40s) brought brooding intensity to the Mabaso dynasty, rubbing shoulders with heavyweights like Kunene and navigating the show's high-stakes drama. But glory was fleeting: His contract was not renewed, and Fana met a grisly end caught in Jack's underworld, airing in late 2018 amid viewer tears and Mnqobi's pivot to music.

'Generations', which bid farewell to detective Dali Malinga, took to social media to announce Mnqobi's exit.

The official @Gen_legacy account tweeted at the time:

"We couldn't hold back our tears when Jack said goodbye to Fana."

Mnqobi pivots to music

Post-soapie, Mnqobi traded scripts for studios, launching tracks like Umsindo in 2018, only to face brutal backlash. Mzansi roasted the visuals and urged a resurrection, with the trending social media sentiment being:

"Generations, please bring back Fana!"

He resurfaced in 2024 with Bazothini Abantu, again drawing trolls but standing firm:

"Keep talking, I'll read the comments later."

Mnqobi speaks his contract

Spotting his face flickering on SABC1 screens, uninvited and unpaid sparked a question:

"What do they want? If they want something, they must talk to me and stop being cowards."

He dissected the contract:

"There's a simple thing. Artists are supposed to get transported; they couldn't even do that."

He offered an alternative:

"They should take Vusi Kunene's younger picture and use that. Or, if you want me in the show, call me."
