A scene from the reality show Izingane Zesthembu has set Mzansi talking after Mpumelelo "Sbindi" Mseleku refused to accept juice from his new wife, Tirelo Kale, during their lobola celebrations. The clip has since gone viral, splitting viewers sharply along cultural lines.
In the footage, Tirelo walks over to Sbindi to offer him juice, only for him to stop her and question why she was not kneeling. Without waiting for her response, he issues a firm instruction: "No, on your knees, woman."
In traditional Nguni culture, kneeling or crouching when serving a partner, particularly after lobola proceedings or within a polygamous household, is a recognised gesture of respect. Sbindi made clear he expected nothing less.
Tirelo Kale's excuse falls flat
When Tirelo told her new husband she had knee problems, his response was blunt: "On your knees. It's not my problem that you have a knee issue. Kneel."

Her face said it all, but she eventually obliged. During her diary session, she compared the moment to the Mzansi Magic telenovela Nyala O, which examines the complexities of polygamous marriage, and joked that Sbindi had begun ordering her around within "a few minutes" of becoming his wife.
Sbindi, for his part, showed no remorse during his own diary session. He pointed out that lobola had been paid in full and that he was perfectly within his rights to expect her to kneel. He even playfully asked, "Was that so hard?" and offered to coach her until she perfected her serving technique. Tirelo, however, made clear she was not keen on a lifetime of kneeling.

The video drew a wave of responses, with many viewers defending Sbindi's request as culturally appropriate.
