A fashionable content creator excited online shoppers when she shared that the global e-commerce platform Shein had a beneficial update, which introduced a change to the customs fees.
Namolinah Robertson took to her TikTok account and informed the online community that Shein now includes customs fees when placing an order. Shoppers will see this as an extra cost in their cart.
The woman further shared:
"The reason why this is such a fantastic update is that there have been a lot of scams when it comes to people paying import charges. Usually, you get an SMS or email asking you to pay your customs fee, but now you can pay for it beforehand.

Shein update intrigues Mzansi
Local social media users flooded the post's comment section with queries and also shared their excitement about the update.
@toolz_sefa said to Namolinah and people on the internet:
"We love the change, sana. At least we are able to budget the total amount properly. These courier companies were charging too much. I just checked how much Shein charges for customs, and it looks very fair."
@shimmydelange stated in the comment section:
"I was so happy when I saw it on Saturday when I placed an order. Paid my R93 on a R900 order."
@mildlyoffensive23 gave their opinion, stating:
"It makes sense because South Africa and China are strengthening ties, especially with tariffs."

@natts2001 told the online community:
"Honestly, this is amazing, besides the scams. It's amazing for budgeting and not having to guess what customs will be."
@yvetafne wondered in the comments:
"But for people in South Africa, why are we still paying customs when they now have a warehouse in South Africa?"
Namolinah replied to the TikTok user:
"With or without a warehouse, someone has to cover the import costs. Unless they open a factory and do everything in South Africa. Warehouse is storage. They still have shipping and import costs. They don't disappear if they get a warehouse in South Africa."
@m0t1a1epu1e suggested a possible update for the future:
"Now they need to list all courier companies and let us choose our preferred one. I hate iMile so much."
