A South African businessman has caused a big debate after sharing why he thinks people should stop dreaming about moving overseas.
Content creator @accelerait_africa posted a video on TikTok at the end of June explaining his strong feelings about South Africans who want to leave the country for better opportunities abroad.
The international small business expert shared his thoughts after meeting a woman at a local car repair shop who was planning to move overseas. He felt frustrated hearing her talk about how life would be so much better in countries like America, Britain or Australia.

"I am sick to death of hearing people say that they need to live overseas in order to have a better life. Some foolish propaganda is misinforming you - life is tough out there. SA is FULL of opportunities if you know where to look."
The businessman, who has lived overseas and travelled extensively, warned people about the real costs of living abroad. He shared examples like paying $12 for a raw chicken in California and explained how expensive it is to live the same lifestyle overseas that people have in South Africa.
He also pointed out that South Africans often have to start from the bottom when they move abroad, doing jobs they would never do at home.
"You're going to have to do stuff that you would never do in South Africa. You don't have to wash your own clothes right now," he explained in the video.
The content creator encouraged people to focus on opportunities in South Africa instead of blaming politics or other issues for their problems.
According to experts at IBN Immigration Solutions, the businessman's opinion turned out to be true, as it was discovered that the cost of living in America is indeed higher than in South Africa, which would explain why some Americans are currently moving to Mzansi for a better life.

"If we had jobs, no corruption and no crime, this country would be heaven!!!"

"Valuable business insight, and free advice. Thank you, sir, you are right, diaspora is overrated. This is true not only for Mzansi but the rest of Africa."
@alida_fields_2.0 shared her experience:
"I was living in Japan for 3 years, came back home to South Africa 2 years ago, and still have no job. Applied for a job back in Japan, got one after two weeks of applying. Moving back to Japan in the summer."
@tamsin_grant said:
"I moved to New Zealand 17 years ago, and it was the best move I ever made. Would never go back to South Africa."
@mama_in_ireland defended her choice:
"Me, I'm one of those fools because we love it in Ireland. And don't fool yourself thinking groceries are much cheaper in SA, we were shocked when we went back to SA for a holiday."
