According to a local snake catcher known by the Facebook handle Snake Catcher Noosa 24/7 Luke the Snake Catcher, the man shared a video where he was called out after homeowners reported unusual sounds overhead. Upon inspection, he discovered the reptiles thrashing about, which he confirmed was a fight over a nearby female snake.

The catcher explained the spectacle by saying:

"Noises in the roof. I was called out to a home in Doonan today to grab these noisy male Carpet pythons that were fighting over a female. Thumping and thudding could be heard from underneath in the house. It’s breeding season, folks, and this is how male Carpets show dominance and eventually win the right to mate with the female. Great example of males fighting."

He added that such confrontations are common during the breeding season, with males wrestling to assert dominance. These battles can be noisy, with snakes slamming into walls, ceilings, and each other in an attempt to overpower their rival.

Carpet Pythons are non-venomous but can grow several metres long, making their fights both dramatic and intimidating for homeowners who stumble upon them. While frightening to witness, these reptiles generally pose little threat to humans unless provoked.

The post sparked fascination online, with many locals amazed by the raw display of nature playing out in an urban setting. The footage went viral on social media after it was published on 19 September 2025.
