A street interview filmed in Europe has South Africans celebrating after it revealed something unexpected: more Europeans could name Tyla than some of Nigeria’s biggest music exports.

Facebook user Mr Dissector shared the video with the caption: “Watch until the end. You’ll understand why Nigerians hate Tyla so much.”

In the clip, an interviewer approaches members of the public and shows them photos of some of the continent’s most prominent artists, including Burna Boy, Davido and Tems. None of the Europeans questioned could identify any of them. Then the interviewer held up a photo of South African singer Tyla, and the response was immediate: they knew exactly who she was.
