A video posted by news account @PSAFLIVE on X sparked heated debate online after footage emerged appearing to show men in Harare, Zimbabwe, snatching clothing from vendors in a busy outdoor area.

The clip quickly drew attention from South Africans who linked the behaviour to criminals allegedly deported from South Africa and subsequently pardoned by Zimbabwean authorities. Many viewers were outraged, while others questioned the context of what was actually being shown.

Deportations reignite crime debate

The video arrived at a time when deportations of undocumented Zimbabwean nationals from South Africa have been a recurring flashpoint. For many South Africans online, the footage felt like confirmation of a cycle they say is broken at every level: offenders are removed from South Africa, released back into society in Zimbabwe, and the problem simply continues.

Not everyone agreed on what the video shared by @PSAFLIVE showed, however. Some commenters argued the men seen were municipal workers clearing vendors from a public space, not criminals at all, adding a layer of scepticism to the conversation.

Briefly News could not independently verify these claims at the time of this report.

“Didn’t they all say there’s no crime in Zimbabwe?🤔”

@TheNativek9 pushed back:

“🤣Those are municipal workers removing vendors from that place.”

@mkhizehoney96 said:

“Those thieves must stay in Zimbabwe. It’s better they’re stealing in their country. Let them stay in their country. They finished everything in SA stealing.”
