South African comedian Unwoke Pope is poking fun at the internet’s meltdown over Airlink’s low flyover at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium. He posted the parody on TikTok on 30 August 2026, and it quickly caught the attention of South Africans who recognised the humour immediately.

The flyover took place before the Springboks faced New Zealand at Cape Town Stadium. Airlink planes passed so close to the venue that footage of the stunt circulated widely and drew alarm from viewers around the world.

Unwoke Pope’s response was a spoof press conference delivered in character as “President Gerty of South Africa.” He assured viewers that the pilots were fully qualified, explaining that both had previously worked as taxi drivers and were therefore experienced in “Quantum physics,” a nod to the Toyota Quantum minibus taxis that are a fixture of South African commuter culture.

He also apologised to local fans who were apparently disappointed that the pilots had not “stopped short left” so passengers could board and disembark midflight, a classic reference to informal taxi rank culture in the country.

Wrapping up the bit, Unwoke Pope addressed Donald Trump directly, promising that the following week South Africa would fly through the poles and score three points before the match even kicked off.
