Klipdrift Brandy's "Same Same but Klippies" campaign closed out on a high note following the 2026 Springboks vs All Blacks tour, and the numbers left rugby fans talking.

The campaign, which ran alongside the tour, used facial-recognition technology to scan fans' faces and pair them with the Springbok player they most resembled. By the time it wrapped up, the initiative had attracted more than 38,500 entries, producing what Klipdrift called a nationwide "Bok Look-alike Squad."

Fouché takes the crown

Prop Neethling Fouché emerged as the player South Africans most closely resembled, racking up 1,885 matches across the country. Lock Lood de Jager came in second with 1,577 matches, while prop Wilco Louw rounded out the top three with 1,469 matches. The results painted a fascinating picture of which Springbok faces resonated most with the South African public.

SA leads the scan count by far

South Africa dominated participation, generating 95% of all scans recorded during the campaign. Gauteng and the Western Cape led the charge domestically. Internationally, the United Kingdom registered as the second-highest participating country overall, a reflection of how far Springbok fandom stretches beyond South African borders.

Rugby scanner unites fans nationwide

Beyond the numbers, Klipdrift's initiative highlighted how rugby brings South Africans together across generations, provinces, and backgrounds to form a nationwide "Bok Look-alike Squad." "Supporting the Springboks isn't just about watching rugby; it's about feeling part of something bigger," noted Donné Wolk, Marketing Head of Spirits, describing how friends challenged each other and social feeds filled up with player comparisons.
