Dressing up for the Lord

The Briefly News team spoke with Deacon Ditsego Morupe about the young married couple's video. We asked if outfits such as the woman's black floral dress with thigh-high openings were appropriate for church, and he responded:

"The church says, 'Come as you are." God is more interested in a person's heart than their clothes. While a person should be respectful when entering a holy space, what matters is the state of a person's heart and their relationship with God. The woman was going to church, and that's all that matters."

The couple was running late for church, and we asked the man of God how important it was to be on time for a service. He shared:

"It is important to be on time for a service, but the most important thing is to have a relationship with God. Being early or on time for a service allows you not to miss the important message carried in the word of the day or other church activities. We, however, do not discourage people from showing up when they see that they are very late. What's the English saying, 'Better late than never,' right?"

When we asked what his message was to those who questioned whether the young wife's dress was appropriate or not, the deacon said:

"My message is to focus on the love and the message of the video, and not the dress. God does not want us to judge others or dictate what people should do with their lives. The man was showing love for his wife, and the woman was on her way to church. It is important to remember that God is everywhere and that a person's heart is what God sees."
