A South African couple found the most unexpected way to celebrate 23 years of marriage. On 10 August 2026, @naeema232 and her husband woke up to continuous snowfall at the Drakensberg Gooderson Golf Course and Spa, and the moment was nothing short of magical.
The snow had been falling since 4:00 in the morning. By 8:00 AM, it was coming down heavily, blanketing the resort's golf course, bare trees, and parked cars in a thick layer of white. The couple even built a small snowman, affectionately named "Mr Olaf," before capturing the frosty surroundings on their phones.
"Absolutely wonderful, wonderful way to celebrate our wedding anniversary, 23 years with some snow. Perfect," the woman said in the clip.
On her TikTok page, her husband confirmed the temperature had dropped to around two degrees and was still falling.

Cold front grips South Africa
The snow was no fluke. A severe cold front combined with a cut-off low-pressure system swept across multiple provinces, bringing disruptive snowfall, heavy rain, and freezing temperatures to high-lying areas and mountain passes.
In KwaZulu-Natal, the Drakensberg region, including Underberg and Cathedral Peak, was hit hard. Mountain routes such as Van Reenen's Pass on the N3 and Oliviershoek Pass on the R74 were affected.
The Eastern Cape saw some of the most severe conditions, with passes including Barkly Pass, Penhoek, and Lootsberg Pass closed after vehicles became trapped. Parts of Gauteng, the Free State, Mpumalanga, and even high-lying ground in the Western Cape also recorded snowfall.
Mzansi and the world respond
The video stopped people in their tracks, particularly those from warmer climates who had no idea South Africa experiences snow at all.
