Kwanele Foundation's Sibisi Blasts Ramaphosa Over GBV at Ekurhuleni Protest

EKURHULENI — Kwanele Foundation founder Sihle Sibisi delivered a pointed address to President Cyril Ramaphosa at a protest against gender-based violence (GBV) in Kempton Park on 15 September 2026, days after the bodies of five women were found in the area.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika at the scene, Sibisi revisited allegations that EFF president Julius Malema had previously levelled against Ramaphosa, accusing the president of shielding cabinet members she described as alleged GBV perpetrators. The video of Sibisi speaking was posted to X by @enhle_ngubeni.

Among those singled out was Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, whom Sibisi linked to a 2022 case in which a massage therapist accused him of sexual assault and inappropriate touching at the Kruger National Park.

She also called out Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina over a remark made at a community engagement in Kouga, Eastern Cape, in which Majodina allegedly insulted a community member with a derogatory reference to their mother's private parts. Sibisi argued that such language itself constitutes GBV.

Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelethini was also included in her list after a video of him allegedly insulting his wife circulated online.

Sibisi directed her message squarely at the President:

"You will not take full accountability and take GBVF seriously, and the people of South Africa will always remain suffering."

R600 million demand and government accountability

At the heart of her address was a demand for R600 million in government resources to be deployed specifically against the GBV crisis. Sibisi questioned how communities could place their trust in a president whose immediate circle includes figures facing unresolved GBV allegations.

She also claimed that ministers had attempted to silence her because of her vocal activism on the issue.
