GQEBERHA, EASTERN CAPE — South Africans were relieved when the Gqeberha Regional Court sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his daughter for eight years and impregnating her.

According to SABC News, the man appeared in court on 21 August 2025 and was handed a stiff sentence for abusing his daughter for almost a decade. The court heard that she moved in with him following a family dispute. That is when her horrific experience began.

The young girl's father assaulted her throughout her teenage years. He threatened her to keep quiet and she fell pregnant by him. He also coerced her into lying about the pregnancy. She gave birth in 2019. However, the victim came forward and opened a case against him.

Men who were sentenced for rape

The Edenburg Regional Court in Edenburg, Free State, sentenced a pastor to two life terms on 23 May 2025 for raping his stepdaughter multiple times for three years. The child, who was a minor when the abuse began, stayed with him while his mother worked night shifts, and was raped from 2019 to 2022.

A court in Pretoria sentenced a 32-year-old man for raping a girl with Down syndrome in 2022. The incident happened at the flats where the victim lived with her mother. He lured her into his apartment and raped her. He argued that they had consensual sex, and he thought she was 17 years old.

Phethe Simiao, who was arrested after the police found the body of a six-year-old in Soweto on 22 October 2024, pleaded guilty to the girl's rape and murder. He appeared before the High Court in Johannesburg and pleaded guilty.

Mamelodi serial rapist sentenced to 400 years

Speaking during sentencing proceedings, Samane spoke about the pain and trauma she was still going through following her daughter’s death.

She added that she also relived the pain whenever she heard a child cry outside, which made her agitated.
