Taking place on Friday 6 November 2026 at Sun City Resort , the Charity Golf Day will bring together approximately 100 golfers including corporate executives, business leaders, investors, government representatives and supporters, for a day of golf, networking and purposeful giving.

The initiative forms part of the Foundation’s flagship #TheBucketStopsWithMe campaign, which seeks to address unsafe sanitation in South African schools by replacing inadequate pit and bucket toilets with safe and sustainable ablution facilities.

“Our long - term goal is to take this one school at a time. We want to identify a school, understand its needs, complete the work required to create a safe and dignified environment for its learners, and then move on to the next school. In this way, we can build a sustainable programme of impact, one school and one community at a time.” - Farai Mushazhirwa, Director, HomeComing Foundation

Turning Business Connections into Community Impact

The Charity Golf Day is designed to bring together South Africa’s corporate and business community around a shared social - impact objective using golf as a platform for networking, partnership and purposeful giving.

For HomeComing Events, the decision to use golf as the vehicle for the initiative was deliberate. While the organisation remains deeply focused on young people and youth culture, the Golf Day provides an opportunity to connect with business owners, CEOs, investors and government stakeholders whose support can help turn the Foundation’s vision into tangible community projects. “We could have chosen padel, a run club or another sport that speaks to younger audiences, but we had to ask ourselves where we would find the people we need to bring this initiative to life. Golf has a unique ability to bring together business owners, CEOs, investors and government leaders in one space. For us, it is about being intentional about where we build relationships and where we can mobilise the support needed to create meaningful impact.” - Oratile Sangweni, Director, HomeComing Events

The Charity Golf Day forms part of the broader Sun City Takeover by HomeComing Events, which brings together entertainment, business, lifestyle and community engagement. The introduction of the Charity Golf Day extends the Takeover beyond entertainment, creating a platform through which businesses and individuals can contribute directly towards addressing critical infrastructure challenges in South African schools.

“Sport is one of the most powerful mechanisms for connection. The emotion behind sport allows people to forget their biases and genuinely connect and interact. Golf in particular has been a sport which wrongly or rightfully had been associated with the few. The homecoming foundation golf day in partnership with LadsOnTour allows like - minded organisations to grow the game authentically, and create a platform for long lasting and meaningful connections and impact. Very few other alternatives provide an opportunity to connect, have fun and touch lives….” - LadsOnTour

Building on a Proven Model

The HomeComing Foundation’s commitment to improving school sanitation builds on work already undertaken through #TheBucketStopsWithMe.

At Lehlaga Secondary School in Limpopo, the Foundation replaced unsafe and inadequate toilet facilities with newly built, safe and dignified sanitation facilities. The project addressed long - standing sanitation challenges that affected the daily learning environment and the wellbeing of both learners and educators.

The project also had a particularly meaningful impact on girl learners, who can be disproportionately affected by inadequate sanitation at school. By providing safe, private and hygienic facilities, the initiative helped create an environment where girls could attend school with greater confidence, comfort and dignity, supporting their wellbeing and participation in education.

The experience at Lehlaga Secondary School provides a foundation for the Foundation’s long - term approach: identify schools where sanitation infrastructure is urgently needed, deliver the necessary improvements, and then take the work to the next school.

More Than Infrastructure

The inaugural fundraising target of R3.5 million will contribute towards the implementation of the sanitation project, including site assessments, construction, materials, labour, project management, monitoring and community engagement.

The inaugural project will support a school in the North West Province, in the area surrounding Sun City. The Foundation is currently engaging with Sun City Resort to assist in identifying a suitable beneficiary school.

The Foundation’s approach extends beyond the construction of sanitation facilities. The project is also intended to contribute to skills development and economic participation within beneficiary communities by creating opportunities for local community members to be involved in the construction process and equipping individuals with practical skills that can be applied within their own communities.

By involving people from the communities where projects are implemented, the Foundation aims to ensure that the impact extends beyond the physical infrastructure itself, creating opportunities, developing skills and empowering communities to contribute to their own development.

Building a Sustainable Model of Impact

The Charity Golf Day is intended to become an annual flagship fundraising initiative for the HomeComing Foundation, creating a recurring platform through which corporate partners, businesses and individuals can contribute towards the Foundation’s work.

The Foundation’s long - term vision is to tackle the sanitation challenge one school at a time, identifying schools in need, completing the necessary infrastructure work and then moving on to the next school. The inaugural project will be the next step in creating a sustainable model that can be expanded to schools and communities across South Africa.

The Charity Golf Day brings together a network of partners aligned around this vision. The HomeComing Foundation serves as the project owner and beneficiary, with Itu Golf as the official golf event management partner, Sun City Resort as venue partner and host, HomeComing Events as the event management and activation partner and LadsOnTour as the Golf event management partner.

The initiative also creates an opportunity for collaboration between the HomeComing Foundation and Itu Foundation as part of their broader commitment to community development and meaningful social impact. “ At ITU Golf, we believe golf is more than a game - it is a platform for connection, opportunity and meaningful impact. Partnering with the Homecoming Foundation reflects our shared belief in using the sport to create change that reaches far beyond the course.” - Innocentia Motau, Founder & CEO, Itu Golf

The Foundation is calling on corporates, businesses and individuals to support the initiative through four - ball entries, sponsorships, strategic partnerships and direct contributions towards #TheBucketStopsWithMe.

Following the launch, a BackaBuddy fundraising campaign will also provide members of the public with an opportunity to contribute directly towards the initiative.

The Foundation hopes that the inaugural Charity Golf Day will demonstrate what can be achieved when business, entertainment, sport and community stakeholders come together around a shared purpose: ensuring that no learner has to compromise their safety or dignity because of inadequate sanitation at school.
