GAUTENG — A pastor identified as Doctor Maumela appeared before cameras outside Randburg Magistrates Court on 22 September 2026, speaking out after a high-ranking South African Police Service (SAPS) general was arrested the previous evening at an adult club in Sandton.
The general faces serious allegations, including forcing a teenager to consume alcohol and raping her at a hotel. Maumela told SABC News journalist Heidi Giokos that he was present at the establishment when police moved in to arrest the general on the night of 21 September 2026. Giokos posted his remarks on her X account.
Maumela alleges political targeting within SAPS
Speaking into an SABC News microphone outside the court, Maumela insisted the arrest was not driven by the merits of the case but by internal rivalry within the South African Police Service. He described it as "an agenda within the SAPS to target a certain individual" and warned that he himself would likely be targeted next for speaking publicly about the matter.

Maumela characterised the situation as "orchestrated" and invoked what he described as "witchcraft," framing the events as part of a calculated power struggle over who will succeed as the next national police commissioner. He urged South Africans to take note, warning:
"We don't want to end up being like Zimbabwe, where people are targeted. You can't even talk."
