Sports broadcaster Robert Marawa sparked debate on social media after sharing a clip of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini making a self-referential joke about the viral Stella Artois video during his Reed Dance address.

Marawa, who is known for speaking his mind on social media and has previously jabbed at USA President Donald Trump following Bafana Bafana's World Cup qualification earlier this year, was not impressed. Marawa also called out Trump after he labelled LeBron James a racist during the LeBron vs Jordan debate
He quote-tweeted footage from the Umkhosi Womhlanga ceremony in Phongola on 12 September, adding the caption:

The line echoed the King's own reference during the speech, when he discussed gender-based violence in KwaZulu-Natal and questioned whether alcohol contributed to the problem. The King then appeared to smirk after referring to his own widely circulated Stella Artois video. Queen Nomzamo Myeni-Zulu, who was seated nearby, appeared less amused by the moment.
King Misuzulu's Stella reference sparks debate
The King's reference came after a leaked video from July circulated widely on social media. The footage appeared to show King Misuzulu drinking Stella Artois while confronting the Queen and ordering her to leave the Khangelamankengane Royal Palace.
The video sparked widespread discussion at the time, with the Royal Household initially asking the public to regard the matter as a private domestic issue. The King later expressed regret over the leaked footage.
His reference to the incident during the Reed Dance address once again brought the video into the spotlight, while Marawa's post gave the moment another wave of attention. The broadcaster's post had attracted more than 60,000 views, with South Africans offering sharply different opinions about the joke and its connection to the King's discussion of gender-based violence.
