Serena Williams came through with a big win as she heads to the semi-final of the Australian Open. Williams beat Romania's Simona Halep 6-3, 6-3 in the quarter-final on Tuesday, 16 February in the Rod Laver Arena.
39-year-old Williams will now face 23-year-old Naomi Osaka at the semi-final on Thursday, 18 February. Osaka has been ranked number one in the world by the Women's Tennis Association.
The battle of the world's most famous female tennis players is something to look out for in the coming days as Williams gets ready to take Osaka on.
The Telegraph reported that Williams spoke about her upcoming match against Osaka, saying that she is a strong player on the court and an inspirational person off the court. It'll be the first time Williams and Osaka will meet since the 2019 Canadian Open, reports the BBC.

Briefly.co.za previously reported on Williams return to tennis after facing an injury. The 39-year-old admitted that she would not have made it to the Australian Open if it was not delayed by three weeks. Williams had suffered in Achilles tendon injury in late 2020
Williams managed to mark her place after defeating Australia's Daria Gavrilova 6-1 6-4 on Monday at the Yarra Valley Classic. The 23-time grand slam champion was out for four months following her injury, making the Aus Open her first tour match in a while.
Williams noted that the rescheduling of the Aus Open from 19 January to 8 February helped her as she was unable to practice due to her injury.
