Man United coach Ruben Amorim speaks
After more than four years at Sporting, Amorim has signed a deal with the Red Devils until 2027. His first match will be against Ipswich Town on November 24.
After Sporting's 5-1 win over Estrela Amadora on Friday evening, Amorim spoke about his appointment for the first time.
"It was now or never, or Manchester would go for another option. So, I had three days to make my mind up, to make a decision that changes radically my life," via BBC Sport.
"There's a time when I have to take a step forward in my career. That's what happened. It was harder for me than to any Sporting fan, believe me, but I had to do this."
He added that he will move to Manchester with his staff.
"I will take my staff with me. That was always one of my conditions. I brought them with me since Casa Pia," Amorim said.
Amorim is the sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement. The club sits 14th in the Premier League and are winless in Europe.
