Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has expressed confidence ahead of Saturday’s MTN8 first-leg semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns at Orlando Stadium, despite mounting pressure following a poor run of results.

The Moroccan tactician faces a crucial test, with defeat potentially jeopardising his future after two consecutive losses in the Betway Premiership. His only victory this season came in the MTN8 quarter-final against Sekhukhune United.

Ouaddou's selection is under heavy scrutiny

Football analyst Mandla Biyela has questioned his decision to drop last season’s regulars, including Tshegofatso Mabasa, Thalente Mbatha, and captain Nkosinathi Sibisi, in favour of youngsters Lebone Seema and Mbekezeli Mbokazi in central defence.

“Leaving out experienced players who know the club, the system, and the pressure is baffling. Throwing in youngsters without senior leadership on the pitch is risky,” Biyela said.
