The Tunisian tactician returned to the dugout after travelling home due to a family emergency, but was unable to lead the Glamour Boys to victory against the champions.

The Soweto giants won their opening three fixtures before the game against the Brazilians and showed significant improvements compared to how they played against the champions last season.

Nabi explains why he was unsatisfied with the draw against Downs

Speaking to SuperSport TV after the match at Soccer City, Coach Nabi admitted there was some disappointment after his side missed out on securing the full three points against the defending champions, as they were obviously the better side.

“There’s definitely a sense of frustration because we felt we had a real chance to take all three points,” said the Kaizer Chiefs head coach. “But credit to the opposition, they’re a strong team. While we do have some regrets, we’ll shift focus and keep working toward what’s ahead.”

The former AS FAR Rabat head coach also reflected on the Glamour Boys’ tactical approach, claiming they had studied how Miguel Cardoso's side had shown vulnerability in the closing stages of recent matches, particularly against their city rivals, Orlando Pirates.

“In the first half, we weren’t at our best and intentionally gave them more of the ball, knowing they tend to fade as the game wears on,” he added.

“In the second half, we made some adjustments in midfield that allowed us to press higher and stay more aggressive.”

Despite creating loads of chances late on in the game, Nabi acknowledged his team's inability to convert their chances and seal the victory.

“We had our moments, but sadly, we couldn’t find the finishing touch,” he concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns are rated as part of the favourites teams to win the league this season. The Glamour Boys are already showing early positive signs that they are ready to compete for the title this campaign.

The Soweto giants will switch focus on their next match in the Betway Premiership which is against Lamontville Golden Arrows on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
