SAFA president Danny Jordaan said the fixture would provide a significant test.
“Matches against Egypt are always tough, and we do not expect anything less in this latest instalment,” Jordaan said, according to the SAFA official statement.
“I think that coach Pitso’s return to Bafana Bafana will add another twist because they know him very well in the North African country.”
Mosimane is no stranger to Egyptian football, having coached Al Ahly from 2020 to 2022. He led the Cairo giants to back-to-back CAF Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021.
He also added the Egyptian Premier League and Egyptian Cup to his honours. His familiarity with Egyptian football adds another layer to Bafana Bafana’s upcoming trip to Cairo.

Egypt rivalry adds extra interest
Bafana Bafana will be looking to produce a different result when they return to face Egypt, having lost their last encounter 1-0 in December 2025. Mohamed Salah settled that contest from the penalty spot before the North Africans were reduced to 10 players.
The upcoming Cairo fixture offers Mosimane an early opportunity to assess his squad against opponents South Africa know well. It will also add another demanding test to the start of his latest Bafana Bafana tenure.
