Newly reappointed Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has shrugged off concerns about criticism as he begins his second permanent spell in charge of South Africa.
Mosimane was officially unveiled by the South African Football Association (SAFA) at SAFA House in Nasrec on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. The 62-year-old returns with significant expectations following his previous success with the national team and clubs.
Asked about supporters who may not back his appointment, Mosimane said criticism was simply part of football.
“I’ve seen [most] South Africans supporting the team… There will always be one or two who can say whatever you want to say,” Mosimane said according to KickOff.

Why Pitso Mosimane welcomes criticism
The coach pointed to the examples of Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane to explain why even highly decorated coaches face differing opinions.
“You can never be liked by everybody, right?” Mosimane said. “It’s a game of opinions, and criticism is important because it makes us not too comfortable.”
He added:
“For me, criticism fuels me a lot.”

Bafana Bafana face immediate AFCON test
Mosimane’s return will quickly be tested, with Bafana scheduled to face Guinea and Eritrea in back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later in September.
The fixtures will provide the first competitive test of his latest tenure.
For Mosimane, however, the message is already clear: criticism will not distract him from the task ahead.
